Dance, Drama & Music

Theatre

The Macready Theatre, seating 250, is fully equipped and can also offer full technical support if required. Originally built in 1885, as a successor to Old Big School, it remained as classrooms until the mid 1970s when it was converted. The theatre has until recently been unavailable to hire to the public but is now open and available for bookings.

Historic Hall

The Temple Speech Room, a beautiful Edwardian concert hall, houses two high quality grand pianos and a historic, rare, 19th century Bryceson Organ. It can seat up to and ideal for a variety of musical events. It can seat up to 700 theatre style or 300 for a drinks reception, making it an ideal venue for a variety of musical events.

Chapel

Dating back to 1872, the Main Chapel is one of William Butterfield's masterpieces and is a remarkable and unique building featuring an outstanding 15th century stained glass window. Seating more than 1,000 it has an award-winning four-manual organ by Kenneth Jones which makes it an ideal venue for concerts and musical events.

Sports & Fitness

Sports Hall

Two multi sport halls are available at rugby School with space for 6 badminton size courts in the Main sports hall and 4 in the Collingwood sports hall. The halls can be divided into a variety of different combinations to suit an array of activities such as five-a-side football, netball, basketball and even Go-Karts.

Swimming Pool

Rugby School Sports Centre is set in the heart of the school grounds on Horton Crescent. Located in the sports centre is the well maintained 25 metre pool with an ascending depth of 1-2 metres and 6 lanes. The pool can be split into lanes to suit an array of activities such as aqua aerobics, canoe club and swimming lessons.

Squash Courts

Three squash courts, located within the Sports Centre at Rugby School, are available for member, non member and club use.

Fitness Centre

The fitness centre is fully equipped with a variety of cardio vascular, resistance, free weight and functional equipment. Before using the fitness centre you will be inducted by our fully qualified fitness team who will be able to advise on how to use our equipment safely. Our fitness team are also able to tailor a personalised program to suit your goals.

Astro Turf Pitches

Three floodlit astro turf pitches which can be set up and divided for a variety of activities and ideal for hockey and football. There are also eight outdoor tennis courts, extended to over 30 courts in the summer. These are available for hire by clubs and individuals.

Cricket Pitches

During the season the extensive cricket facilities are available for hire by clubs and individuals. These include five squares, eight artificial nets, 12 grass nets and six indoor nets.

Rugby Pitches

The famous Close, on which the game of Rugby Football was first played, is located at the heart of the School and is revered by the many leading players and teams from all over the world who visit the School and often train on it. Additionally, a further 13 rugby pitches are also available for hire.

The 1909 Edwardian Temple Speech Room with its majestic chandeliers is a versatile space ideal for larger events. Concerts, weddings, conferences, lectures, dinners or cocktail parties can all be accommodated with the room able to seat 150 people for a formal dinner, 300 guests for an evening celebration or up to 700 for a concert or conference.

Historic Entertaining Areas

Steeped in history and tradition, impress your guests in Rugby Schools 18th century classroom, Old Big School. The wood panelling encasing the walls still bears the carvings of students who studied here 200 years ago. Perfectly located next to the glorious school Chapel and beautifully maintained quads, your event here will be unforgettable.

Small Hall

Transform the modern, blank canvas that is the Collingwood Hall into your perfect celebration space. This sympathetically restored Pugin style building is home to a spacious central hall with warm wooden flooring and adjacent bar and or café. Complete with a wide stage and flooded with natural light, this contemporary venue is ideal for any occasion.

Seating more than 1,000, the remarkable Main Chapel and its award-winning four-manual organ by Kenneth Jones, which makes it an ideal venue for musical events as well as for weddings, Christening, Dedications and Memorial Services.

Located at the heart of the school, the James Pavilion with its glorious view of The Close and the school buildings is a versatile space that can be used to accommodate different types of corporate and social events. It can seat 16 in a boardroom set up, 16 classroom style, 40 for a sit down meal or 60 for a drinks reception.
